Howdy. We've moved from Cayce, but St. Elizabeth of South Rose Hill or Lizette de Waccamaw de Sud just don't do it for me.

Page 123, 3-Sentences Meme

Gashwin tagged me. Good thing -- gives me something to do before painting the town beige (I wish I'd said that first!) for Mardi Gras.

Here are the rules:

  • Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. (No cheating!)
  • Find Page 123.
  • Find the first 5 sentences.
  • Post the next 3 sentences.
  • Tag 5 people.
I'm sitting next to a bookcase, so it's hard to determine which book is closest. I'm picking up the first one from the top shelf, even though I suspect the sentences will be interminable.

From The Last Days of Pompeii by Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton, Bart., with a bonus 4th sentence:
I seek as much as possible to repair her [Nydia] the cruelties of Nature and of Fate, in asking permission to place her with thee. She is gentle, quick, and docile. She is skilled in music and the song, and she is a very Chloris* to the flowers. She thinks, Ione, that thou wilt love her: if thou dost not, send her back to me.

*(footnote in the original) The Greek Flora.

I'll tag Dogwood, Waldie, Baldman, Heather, and any lurkers (Mags?) who want to respond in the comments box. If so, give yourself a nickname -- don't just select anonymous.

Kudos to anyone else who can quickly place his/her hands on a bound Bulwer Lytton publication.

If also, the circle and the curve have the same second derivative at (1,2), find h, k, n, and r. Sketch the curve and the circle. If y = x^2 + 1 and u = sqrt(x^2 + 1), find dydu.

From Calculus and Analytic Geometry by Thomas and Finley, 5th edition.

His juxtaposition of infant milestones (or setbacks) and the evolution of social institutions, micro and macro, are major contributions. "The human life cycle and man's institutions have evolved together," he explains. Erikson's description of each stage of development accordingly includes a parallel to some basic elements of social organization.

-from "Human Behavior and the Soacial Environment: Micro Level." by Katherine van Wormer.

haven't read it yet, don't know who Erikson is, don't understand the quote in its proper context. I'm afraid this is what you're going to get with so many folks involved in either teaching, being taught, or research!

Comorbidities may affect treatment decisions and influence patient outcomes. Information on comorbidities is used to adjust outcome statistics when evaluating patient survival and other outcomes. Complications may be related to the quality of care.
