Rome Trip - July 1: Getting Started

For Gashwin, who claims he may be the only one of our friends who would be interested in the day-by-day account of our trip.

I'm writing, nearly unedited, from notes I made each evening (or the next day, depending on fatigue levels...) Thanks to Izzy for additions and corrections.

Left our fair city ~ 1 PM - arrived in south Durham ~ 5 PM. Picked up the young woman who would be using the car while we were away.

Drove to a branch of our bank (closest one to where we live is ~ 70 miles) to deposit checks for jury service, tire reimbursement and bday $$ from Mom. (Thanks, Mom!)

Drove to another friend's house in Watts-Hillandale (the last neighborhood we lived in while in Durham). We've now reached the first part of the trip with no independent wheels.

PM: Dinner w/this friend, plus another alto choir comrade at El Rodeo. Nice long getting-reacquainted visit.
